Review of Touch of Evil (1958) by Fernando G — 05 Apr 2011
Brilliantly shot and directed - no surprise from the talent behind Citizen Kane. The opening sequence, done in a single crane shot, is masterful and sets the anticipation high for the rest of the film.
The winding plot is a little hard to pull out of all the curious, overlapping dialog which gets a bit tiring as the film goes on. The overall pacing, though, is excellent. I didn't care about all the pieces but the two leads' (Heston and Welles) rivalry and divergent methods for justice are interesting enough to pull us through.
