Review of Touch of Evil (1958) by Ryan V — 12 Apr 2013
A Mexican detective (inexplicably played by Charlton Heston) witnesses a bomb assassination while on honeymoon with his new wife (Janet Leigh). While investigating, he begins to suspect that the local police chief (Orson Welles) is planting evidence.
This leads to duplicity, murder, and dark tidings for all involved. Touch of Evil is the last Hollywood movie Welles directed and its a hallmark of noir filmmaking. The cinematography is wonderful and the cast does a solid job with the suspenseful script (Thankfully, Heston never tries to adopt an accent).
