On the whole, it has some killer CGI set designs, but they evoke Blade Runner to an extreme and a hint of Ghost In The Shell at times and not at all an original vision of the future. While it does try to distance itself from the plot and does have some interesting ideas added to the mix (the hand phones with displays on glass, the piano reveal, The Fall) with fresh visions of the tech but not to the story line.

Those who have seen the original will anticipate all the plot twists which robs them of their impact. The merge of Lori and Rictor was interesting and gave the character a stronger presence. If they truely wanted to make a great Total Recall film, they should have made a film that wasn't geared towards the ones who haven't seen the film, which is in short supply.

I still lament they didn't contact David Cronenberg to write and direct this film. If anyone could have given us a fresh cerebral take on this film, it would have been him. He spent a year working on a script in the mid 80's.
