Review of Total Recall (2012) by Michael C — 12 Mar 2014
The Good: Kate Beckinsale in those undies, Kate Beckinsale gets to use both her fake American accent and her real British accent, She is in the film a lot. Colin Farrell is more believable than Arnie as an everyman. I dig the design of the city. There is still a nude 3 breasted hooker. This remake still keeps the themes of escapism and the whole is this/isn't this a dream thing though they are minimalized a good deal here (the focus is on the dumb action).
The Bad: Bad script, lame action, too many lens flares, it's not believable that Quaid is not satisfied with Kate Beckinsale as his wife, Farrell is not believable as an action star, The film is very brainless, the long run time is insulting.
Verdict: The film isn't even trying. Total Recall 2012 cares more about being your typical brainless and dumb action flick than it does being a smart and clever sci-fi film. As far as remakes go this is one of the worst and most insulting to fans of the original classic. It's bad. I'd say skip it except for the beginning scene of Kate Beckinsale in those undies, easily the only memorable part of this film.
