Review of Total Recall (1990) by Matthew A — 21 Aug 2012
Director Paul Verhoeven and his writing team kicked off the 90s with this box office hit about a man who struggles to make sense of his identity. Arnold Schwarzenegger is just right as Douglas Quaid, and Sharon Stone sizzles as his wife in an early role.
The supporting cast excels, too, in this ultra violent and fast-paced, journey, which boasts trend-setting, Oscar-winning special effects by Digital Domain. One quibble is James Horner's overly derivative score, which reminds the viewer of Conan the Barbarian.
Based on the short story, "We Can Remember It for you Wholesale," by Philip K. Dick.
