Review of Total Recall (1990) by Nathan M — 24 Aug 2012
Viscera virtuoso Verhoeven entertains and engages the mind in this peak era Arnold Schwarzenegger film. An excessively entertaining Arnold performance (with yelling and exclamation galore), entertainingly excessive violence, and entertainingly excessive mutants are all held together with a playful and adventurous tone with goofiness in abundance.
The look of this closed set film is actually still okay looking due to the art directorâ(TM)s dedication to the chosen look of the film, as well as well selected urban locales. Jerry Goldsmithâ(TM)s epic score also elevates what might have been a minor Arnold film if placed in the hands of a less capable director (see Len Wiseman).
