Review of Total Recall (1990) by Kyle L — 25 Sep 2012
The original Total Recall is a really impressive Science Fiction Action film and it has some of the best moments in Science Fiction history plus this movie also has some of the best visual and special effects used as well in Science Fiction History.
. I did like the original Total Recall as much as I enjoyed the 2012 Total Recall remake as well and mainly both films have the same plot but there are minor differences between both movies. The plot of this movie is about Douglas Quaid a construction worker who discovers that his entire memory of the past derives from a memory chip implanted in his brain.
Douglas Quaid learns his true and real identity that he is a secret agent and he later on decided to seek help when he travels to Mars to visit his old partner Melina and together the two must also stop Cohaagen who plans to destroy life in Mars and the two must stop him before everyone dies.
I seriously had a good and fun time watching this movie just like how I had fun watching the 2012 Total Recall remake. For the most part this is such a wild movie and I enjoyed watching it a lot and I seriously like it so far.
What's great about the original Total Recall is that the film has a lot of impressive action scenes and the fight scenes are really good as well. The scene where Douglas Quaid gets caught by a group of spies and he kills them all is one of the most impressive fight scenes I've seen in this movie and I did enjoy that fight scene so far although I still think that the 2012 remake had some more improve action scenes so far.
I also like the fight scene where Melina and Lori started fighting and I did like that scene so far and it was great as well although it is nowhere near as good as the fight scene in the 2012 remake but I still like the fight scene in this movie so far.
I also enjoyed watching a couple of action scenes in this movie. The scene where Arnold Schwarzenegger uses a Hologram and started fighting Richter's men is one of the best action scenes in the movie so far.
What's also great about the original Total Recall is that the film also has some of the best futuristic settings since Minority Report. My personal favorite setting in this movie is the Mars setting and I seriously love that setting in the movie so far and I think in the 2012 remake the remake has a different feel and different style as well because what they removed from the 2012 remake is the Mars setting which was in the short story by Philip K.
Dick and it was also here in the original Total Recall but at least it's great so far. What I also like about the original Total Recall is that the movie also has a lot of non stop and impressive over the top gore sequences plus the movie also has a lot of impressive gore effects and I did like the gore used in the film and the whole movie has a really violent feel.
The scene where Richter gets his hands ripped off is one of the most disgusting parts of the film so far and I did like the rest of the scenes that used a lot of gore effects as well so far. I also like some of the over the top special effects like the scene where Cohaagen gets his eyes and tongue started coming out due to the lack of oxygen in Mars is one of the most disgusting but impressive over the top special effects so far.
Now the acting is great the performances of the casts from Schwarzenegger to Michael Ironside is great and I also think that Sharon Stone had the best performance in this movie as a bad guy so far and she handled the performance quite well so far.
Director Paul Verhoeven did a really good job with his work with this movie so far and I hope to see more of his other films for someday and this is Verhoeven's best movie since the original Robocop and I always like his ideas with using gore in his Science Fiction films so far.
Overall the original Total Recall gets a 10/10 because this movie has a lot of impressive visual and special effects plus the movie also has a lot of impressive fight scenes and some incredible performances from the casts so far.
