Review of Total Recall (1990) by Paul O — 17 Feb 2012
Paul Verhoeven loosely adapts Philip K. Dick's short story into a swiftly moving, action packed, and thickly humorous popcorn flick. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a construction worker in the near future who decides to have a Martian vacation inserted into his brain.
What awakens, however, is a repressed memory of being a badass freedom fighter for Martian rights. Naturally, the rest of the movie is concerned with flying bullets, cocky one-liners, and a mutant stripper with three breasts.
While only retaining a fraction of Dick's mind-bending ideas, Total Recall still has enough going for it to make it a cut above the typical action flick.
