Review of Tortilla Soup (2001) by Allan T — 28 Mar 2009
A remake of Ang Lee's Eat Drink Man Woman in a Mexican-American setting. I wonder how many cultural cues (if any) I missed because I'm not Mexican-American. On its own merit it's suitable for a light, warm-hearted fare.
In comparison to the original: the original is better. I think some of the situational drama and humor was lost in translation from Chinese culture to Mexican-American culture. Didn't enjoy some of the plot line changes as much.
