Review of Topsy-Turvy (1999) by Gerasimos E — 28 Aug 2010
Faithful, gritty rendering of Victorian England and authentic behind-the-scenes production artwork, examining with finesse the emotional distance between its protagonists. Notable performances include an unforgettable turn from Timothy Spall.
Detailed, grand-scale art direction and intimate character study. A bit slow to start, but when they hit the part where they are writing the Mikado, it becomes really picks up. A charming, warm, witty movie, funny one minute and moving the next.
