Review of Topaz (1945) by Frank M — 20 Oct 2009
As difficult as it is for me to admit this, Hitch made a bad film in TOPAZ. After revisiting it, this was evident to me. Unlike in TORN CURTAIN, in which there are a few good scenes (like the opera scene, or the kitchen knife murder), there is not much to praise in TOPAZ.
Apparently in its premiere, audiences crossed out "Alfred Hitchcock's" before TOPAZ. Clearly, there isn't much to suggest that Hitchcock actually directed this film. So I've had to change my rating and review; this is clearly not as good as I remembered.
