Review of Top Hat (1935) by John R — 25 Aug 2007
Often held up as the best Fred/Ginger effort (and probably the most successful), I felt that when placed within the Astaire/Rogers canon, it falls short. Its plot is almost identical to the previous film ("Gay Divorcee") and the actors/characters are all the same, only in a slightly different setting.
Of course, the Irving Berlin songs and the dancing/choreography are top notch. Its still great fun, despite my quibbles.
