Review of Top Gun (1986) by Mel S — 27 Aug 2011
The acting was mostly bad, but luckily Tom Cruise seemed to be the only actor in this thing, so I didn't have to get annoyed with a new one. The story was... yeah. Exactly. Generally not so bad, but the cheesy love story that seemed completely out of place (their first night together made me throw up a little bit) and the weird sub-plot about the father were so frustrating, not even the flying scenes could make up for it.
So why 60%? For the same reason the producers probably made this movie: half-naked guys who are either sweaty or wet. This bliss lasted for about 5 minutes, but those were pretty great 5 minutes, so a young, yummy, topless Val Kilmer alone was responsible for at least 40%. Go figure.
