Review of Top Gun (1955) by Jake R — 03 Sep 2012
Despite negative reaction from viewers and critics alike, I consider this film an achievement. I mean, there must be a reason why it was the highest grossing film of 1986, right? The arguments that people in the 1980's were gullible is completely insulting.
Was Back To The Future a bad movie? What about Ghostbusters? Aliens? They made plenty of money and yet, Top Gun is still frowned upon. Why? It takes the thrill of aerial combat and the interesting, although comical approach to romance.
Don't expect a high flying action film as if you're comparing it to today's market. It does a good job at choreographing and filming aerial battles and the interaction on the ground is just as good.
Give it a chance and be open minded. That's what film critics are supposed to do.
