Review of Top Five (2014) by Arseniy V — 05 Apr 2015
Political correctness be damned, let's face a couple of facts. A) "Black comedy" is a genre. B)This genre, like many others - is particularly starved of genuine sustenance. From Perry, to Martin, to Murphy's later offerings (e.
G. Nutty Professor series and the like). This film is an attempt to bridge that gap. And even though its pacing and feel still have a rather artificial flavor to them, there is enough honesty and vulnerability here (like that unforgettable DMX scene) to render said attempt - a success.
Not an unequivocal success, but a success nevertheless.
