Review of Top Five (2014) by Simeon P — 08 Jan 2015
An uncommon and refreshing take on the New York love story, meaning that someone other than Woody Allen wrote it. Chris Rock brings a fresh perspective on the genre. Top Five brings a more real sensibility to relationships, avoiding the cliched, over the top Tyler Perry formula in black film storytelling.
This avoidance gets a little whiplash-y at times, but it's made tolerable by some choice cameo appearances (dont blink on Jerry Seinfeld!) and Rock's self-effacing honesty. Check it out.
