Review of Tootsie (1982) by Dan M — 16 Oct 2010
Funny. And a great performance by Dustin Hoffman, who I've unfairly written off over the years as a hack. The music drove me a bit crazy though. The terrible, outdated 80s electronic score is prevalent and nearly ruins the movie. Still, entertaining, though I'm not completely sure what it's ultimately trying to say about women.
A woman is only capable of standing up for herself if she takes on life from the perspective of a man? Men will only treat women fairly if they act masculine? Sometimes it takes a strong willed ugly woman to make men realize they can't treat attractive women like sex objects? I wasn't sure. The intention was good, but the message was a little fuzzy.
And some hilarious one liners from Bill Murray. Classic.
