Review of Tootsie (1982) by Tyler S — 06 Jan 2009
A modern classic, although more of an anthropological social study on gender roles in the 1980's. Funny and clever without being slapstick, Dustin Hoffman is great and has the shoulders of such able co-stars as Bill Murray (an early straight(er) man role) Dabney Coleman and Charles Durning to stand on.
Too much a product of its time to be timeless, it would be a shame if the films' larger lessons are lost to time and novelty.
