Review of Tootsie (1982) by Steve W — 06 Mar 2010
This movie is excellent. Dustin Hoffman plays an actor who pretends to be a woman so he can get some work. Hilarious antics ensue, with love triangles and lots of pokes at misogyny and gender stereotypes.
Whenever men dress up as women, its hilarious if its done right. There is always the awkward older man who hit on them orthe little situations that make them risk being found out. Some Like It Hot had plenty of this, and Tootsie does too.
The movie has this sort of class to it, as the humour is engaging and entertaining, but never gets too crude. The cast is also amazing, especially the deadpan roommate Jeff. (Bill Murray).
Right behind Some Like It Hot, AFI has this as their #2 spot. A spot I think it deserves, even though it does seem to have a cliche happy ending.
