Review of Tootsie (1982) by Andy P — 07 Jan 2014
One of the best romantic comedies ever made. It dates itself a little bit, but this is a surprising instance where that doesn't hurt the film one bit (although, it might open it up for an unfortunate remake in the years to come).
The script is hilarious and the inherent gender thematic makes this, still to this day, a socially relevant film to watch. Hoffman's performance is something else, however. He makes it work on so many levels: a character study on the life of an actor, farce, and most essentially, romantic comedy (aided by a terrific performance by Jessica Lange).
