Review of Tootsie (1982) by Adrian B — 02 Jun 2011
Michael Dorsey (Dustin Hoffman) has trouble breaking into the show business thanks to his persistent, ugly attitude when gets rejected or even after he gets accepted. In fact, his name a being really difficult person work with spreads all over the show biz world.
So, he becomes a southern woman named Dorothy. While doing this he balances his life as a man trying to a establish a relationship with a woman (Teri Garr) and as a woman with friendship with another female (Jessica Lange).
Though "Tootsie" is not a great film, there are some redeeming qualities that make it a good film. There are some funny sequences, particularly the ones where anyone is acting in the soap opera, especially Hoffman.
The film, however, could have been a bit shorter in length and maybe perhaps, a little faster. There are some slow spots. It is memorable!
