Review of Tony Takitani (2004) by Joe G — 23 Jul 2007
I must admit, I have only ever read one Haruki Murakami novel (The Wild Sheep Chase). I must admit, it was such an original idea which eventually seemed quite dull. At it's best moments Murakami seems to be quite deadpan, both charming and sensitively so. At his worst, however, this deadpan quality turns soporific (at least in the English translation).
This film succeeds at capture all of the former elements. It is, at turns understated and perceptive, if, at times, a little high maintenance. Watch it with your intellectual girl-friend (or boy-friend).
