Review of Tony Takitani (2004) by Sven S — 01 Feb 2009
Never before do I think I've seen a film that so perfectly capture's the source material's mood. Murakami's tale of an isolated and melancholy illustrator who finds love only to find his wife's materialism driving a wedge between them isn't one that easily transfers to film, but what it loses in translation is made up for by superb acting, cinematography, direction and an understated yet brilliant soundtrack by Ryuichi Sakamoto.
It drags a bit in the second act, but the brilliance of the beginning and end more than make up for it.
