Review of Tony Manero (2008) by Gordon A — 25 Mar 2010
An intresting, disturbing look at a wannabee ''Tony Manero'' from, Saturday Night Fever. The film is set in the late 70's, at the time of the Pinochet dictatorship. It is easy to see the mindset of someone who is almost opressed and trying to break from the norm, to be someone, but as he does it, he looks more and more desperate and pathetic in a bid to look the part.
He is programmed as a sociopath, an emotionally distant, cold man, who ends up killing as part of his routine, along with dancing. The grand finale is the at the Chile Tony Manero look-a-like contest, which he has expectations for, when then see, some emotion from the man, known as Raul.
