Review of Tomorrowland (2015) by Sam F — 01 Oct 2015
Tomorrowland has so many great elements- the retro-future designs, the interesting premise, the sharp characters- which makes it a huge shame that it doesn't execute itself more tightly. While the first half is great, it seems to make promises about the second half that it never really is able to follow up on, especially with a third-act that feels remarkably bare, especially visually. In the end, the message of the film is exceptional, but it spends so much time building up the problem that it makes the solution an afterthought confined to the very last few minutes, when said ending could have been tied into the primary thrust of the story (Plus Ultra and Tomorrowland's original vision) from earlier on had that been developed more.
The early scene in Tomorrowland itself is outstanding and gorgeous, and watching a whole movie in just that setting would have made me a little giddy.
