Review of Tomorrowland (2015) by Preston L — 07 Nov 2015

Tomorrowland is another Disney movie that tries to make a story out of one of their famous Disneyland attractions. It tells the story of a young girl Casey (Britt Robertson) who learns of a world where science is at it's peak and technology is blossoming, but she is being chased by special operatives and must work Frank (George Clooney) a jaded old scientific genius in order to break into that world, in order to save it and the rest of the world.

Things I Liked:

The Look. This movie has really interesting takes on technology. The thing is beautiful to look at. The different era's of technology have different feeling and a lot of the things they design are creative and interesting and you never feel bored by the same things we've seen before. The movie's technology plays a huge part and one that is incredibly fun to look at.

Things I Didn't Like:

The Plot. The plot is kind of absurd. It's complicated and you aren't really given a good amount of time to really figure out what is going on before you are thrown into a new situation or complication and you get lost. I found that while the film was nice to look at I wasn't really paying attention to what was going on and the world was more interesting than the action, so by the end I was confused as to what was happening.

Overall:

Overall, the world is cool to look at, but that's about as good as the movie gets. The performances aren't remarkable, which is a shame. The story is confusing and forgettable and that really drags the movie down. It is mired in cliche moments and the visuals distract from the plot and make you feel lost and confused. The film shows a lot of potential but it really gets lost along the way and ultimately falls flat.
