Review of Tomorrowland (2015) by Dann M — 01 Feb 2016
Inspired by the Disney theme park attraction, Tomorrowland is an unintelligible propaganda film. Directed by Brad Bird, a young girl named Casey Newton receives a pin that gives her a glimpse of a futuristic realm, which then spurs her to seek out a former boy genius who holds the key to getting back there.
Britt Robertson gives a strong performance, but George Clooney phones it in and doesn't seem like he wants to be there at all. Additionally, the writing is really bad; degenerating from a mystery thriller to a generic shoot-em-up chase film with robots.
Still, the special effects are pretty good (for the most part) and there's a nice homage to Walt Disney's origin World's Fair attractions. Though it has its moments, Tomorrowland is a convoluted mess that's no fun for anyone.
