Review of Tomorrowland (2015) by Mini B — 28 Aug 2015
Sometimes the journey is far more enjoyable than the destination.
The visuals of this movie were fantastic, there's so much imagination and creativity being put into the stunning futuristic scenes that we witness.
Both George Clooney and Britt Robertson gave fantastic performances. Their characters had depth, were interesting, and make you care about them, and about what they are going through.
Special praise goes to Raffey Cassidy. This is one of the best performance from a kid actor I have seen in quite a while. Cassidy certainly has skills beyond her years.
Hugh Laurie did the best job he could given the plot, and I could see a little bit of House in his character, but ultimately could not rescue his character from being one-dimensional.
This movie is very original, the fact that it's got the ambition to be different deserves praise.
The first 4/5th of the movie is about the discovery, the search, and the journey towards Tomorrowland. This part was a lot of fun, very imaginative, humorous, exciting, and very entertaining. It makes you really really want to go to Tomorrowland.
During the last 1/5th of the movie you arrive at Tomorrowland, and discovers it sucks. Yes, Tomorrowland itself is a lot more run down than we thought, but more importantly, the movie's plot and narrative took a nosedive in quality. The last 1/5th of the movie has some of the most cliche, preachy, and rushed moments I have ever seen. WTF happened? It's like seeing another movie that's far lower in quality.
Also,1/5th, ONE FIFTH!!!! For a movie called Tomorrowland, they put far too little time in tomorrowland.
The weirdest thing is that I like the film's optimistic message. But somehow, the last 1/5th of the movie is so bad that it just totally doesn't work in this movie.
Tomorrowland is a flawed jewel, it is visually stunning, it is ambitious, but it ultimately fails to live up to it's lofty aspirations.
