Review of Tomorrowland (2015) by Tyler R — 31 Mar 2016

I actually understand the divide on this one. This is a summer blockbuster disguised as a PSA for people everywhere. But the film believes in itself and it's message, and the delivery of that message is an honest and humble one that pays off in the end for those willing to listen.

Tomorrowland follows a girl who, upon receiving a pin, tries to save her world while helping another. This film is about hope and imagination. the same principles that Walt Disney talks about during his ride at Disney World.

Director Brad Bird, the same man who had similar themes in The Iron Giant, handles the film like a pro, despite this being his second live action directorial feature. The cast is pretty great, but Britt Robertson really shines, and she gives us someone to hope for.

Visually, the film impresses, but I won't spoil why here. Tonally, the film follows a steady lighthearted, goofy tone, until the end, which is where I feel this film lost a lot of people. It's a tough pill to swallow, but if you can and see what they are saying, the ending is fantastic.

Overall, Tomorrowland is an oddball of a film. It has blockbuster ambitions and DNA, but it also has a lot of heart and imagination to complement it.
