Review of Tomorrowland (2015) by Jan M — 17 Oct 2015
For Brad Bird's Tomorrowland, I was very excited to see it, but I was surprised that it got mixed reviews for it which I have a feeling was because Damon Lindelof is the co-writer of it. So after watching it, I can understand why people don't like it, but I thought it's a great film that could've been worse like some Disney theme park movies.
Britt Robertson is terrific in this, and so is George Clooney. Raffey Cassidy was a surprise to me, and I'm glad to see a child actor who put a lot of care to her acting. The plot is very good and original, and it was surprising to see that it doesn't get to Tomorrowland until the final act, which I'm actually fine with because I like the characters and the effects.
The chemistry between Frank and Casey is pretty funny at how they don't like each other, but never seem to be mean-spirited to me. I honestly thought the writing is fine, but I do think that the tone is all over the place at times.
The third act, while entertaining, is not as great as the first 2 acts and does seem like it was for kids to be entertained. The themes in the ending have been done before even though it's not a bad moral.
Tomorrowland is not the best theme park movie I've seen, heck it's not actually one Brad Bird's best films, but it still has some great ideas that are executed very well and very entertaining to watch.
