Review of Tomorrow, When the War Began (2010) by James T — 07 Sep 2010
Now I will be honest, I tend to be skeptical about movies that are based on well loved and well read books. The "Tomorrow Series" has probably been read or is being read by every teenager in Australia.
So saying that I went into this movie with average expectations, maybe that is the reason that after watching the entire 104 minutes (not long really) I was completely BLOWN THE FUCK AWAY!
The Movie managed to capture everything I loved about the book and then some. The bits that were left out didn't end up making a big difference to the whole movie (like I wasn't left wondering how she was able to drive the truck, or where she got it from) The Casting was almost spot on and the direction was effing amazing. I really felt like finally an Aussie Film had made it! I often found myself forgetting I was watching a home grown movie and thought for brief moments that I was watching one of those Summer Hollywood blockbusters.
I truly hope this film does well so the ones that are destined to follow get made and released. This film is a must see and its a rare time that I get to give a film the full 5 stars, but this one certainly deserves everyone of them.
