Review of Tomorrow, When the War Began (2010) by Craig H — 17 Sep 2010
Well, if the crop of youngsters in this film are the future of movie actors in Australia then we are in serious trouble. The acting was wooden, particularly Lincoln Lewis, the writing was terrible in parts, and the racist overtones didn't sit comfortably with me at all.
The biggest problem I had with this film though was the the character development just wasn't there, so I really didnt care whether they lived or died and it's incredibly difficult to enjoy a film without having that engagement.
The whole experience was summed up best by the part of the film where one of the characters is reading 'my brilliant career' and comments to another that the book is better than the film, the other character replies, 'yeah, they always are'...she was right on the money and the same applies to 'tomorrow when the war began'.
