Review of Tomorrow, When the War Began (2010) by C.s. K — 30 Sep 2010
Knowing that this was an Australian film, I certainly doubted the quality of the film due to Australian films always being so mediocre and low-budget. But, after watching it, my mind's been changed about the potential of Australian films.
'Tomorrow: When The War Began' has certainly set the bar for future Australian films due to the movie having the professionalism and visual effects that Australian films have lacked in the past. This movie is set in modern-day rural Australia, following a group of young Australians who have to fight in a war they know nothing about. This group of young adults experience the same fear that Australians would have experienced during previous wars and this hits a personal note with the veterans of those wars.
This film has the two things that all good films should have: firstly, an interesting storyline incorporating a love story, fear, humour, the feeling of excitement and a sense of realism; and secondly, the ability to make the audience feel good about their lives in comparison to the flawed lives of the characters.
In conclusion, 'Tomorrow: When The World Began' is a truly brilliant movie which has ushered in a new era of Australian films and is definitely something that I would watch again.
