Review of Tomorrow, When the War Began (2010) by Avishek C — 17 Apr 2011
This was a decent attempt to convert a great book into an Australian movie. I probably had high expectations having read and enjoyed the books as a kid.
The movie wasn't the best but there were some strong character performances. Caitlin Stasey did a great job as Elle (the lead character). Deniz Akdeniz was very convincing as the troubled Greek rogue Homer and Chris Pang did a great job of Lee (even if the whole romance scene was very awkward).
My favorite moment from this movie was when Elle asks her friend in their hideout if it's "a good book?" and then goes on to say "the books are usually better than the movies". I can't help but wonder if that was a joke planted by the screenwriter.
All in all I'm glad I didn't rush and see this in the movies, worth a watch if u read the books.
