Review of Tomorrow, When the War Began (2010) by Hannah : — 11 Jul 2011
This was a let-down and ended up frustrating me more than it entertained. The script is far from plausible. Basically teenagers stop in the middle of the road to say I love you while there are Chinese soldiers scattering high velocity sharp bullets all over the damned place.
The relationship stuff should've been more subtle. I didn't feel any compassion for the characters either. I wouldn't have cared less if they had died or not. The actors are not to be blamed (most of them were okay), but the script: It had potential but it was squandered.
It could have spared the heroic ending as well, it just ruined the gritty feel it barely maintained.
