Review of Tomorrow, When the War Began (2010) by Brandon B — 28 Jul 2012
While this film benefits from good production value and a visually striking use of well-timed color shifts and decent filming style, the almost unbearably cliched script and blatantly type-cast characters make this a confusing mash-up between a teen-comedy and a family-friendly adventure.
The DP clearly has excellent control, the final credit design is done quite well, and the story has potential. However, I hope that the sequel is written in such a way that it can transform these characters into vehicles for some deeper concepts and abandons the cheap first-love schtick, while lowering the rating to a PG in order to make it more accessible for teenagers would also make a lot of sense.
