Review of Tomorrow, When the War Began (2010) by Carlos T — 25 Sep 2012
After enemy soldiers have tried to kill the main character and her friends, she manages to kill one of them. Then later on in the film she says, "I killed the guy because I valued my life more than his. How many people should I kill so that I can stay alive?" What's the alternative, to just lay there and die?
The movie tries to be philosophical at points, but just comes across as silly. There are many points in the movie where they are being chased by enemy soldiers only to stop and stare at something or just stop and talk. They completely have no sense of urgency. There's another scene where the main character almost gets her friends killed yet when someone else does it, she points a gun at him and threatens to kill him. Hypocrite much? The movie just comes across as a teenagers wishful thinking. When the adults try to blow up the bridge, they are too stupid to do it and are all killed. But when these teenagers do it, stupidly I might add, they succeed. Yeah!
