Review of Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) by Bo K — 19 Jan 2014

To me, this was probably the most forgotten of Pierce Brosnan's Bond films as I couldn't remember who the actual villain was, or anything about the plot. Having now reminded myself though it's actually a very action packed and entertaining film as we witness a media mogul play countries off against one another in war, purely for the exposure of his own brand - but what more would we come to expect from a 007 movie?! With the baddy being more of a brains than braun character, he's not the most threatening of Bonds oppositions hence why he requires a German beefcake to provide the muscle in this.

I never think its a great sign when the henchmen die after the main enemy as it's a sign of a weak foe, similar to how Jaws totally upstages other nemesis in his episodes. The Bond girls are a little different too with one that is a martial arts expert as opposed to the usual suspects who just get in the way and scream.

She even resists his advances for large parts but he's already had his fix through Teri Hatcher so it's not all bad for him. As per expectation, the gadgets are in full flow, with a great scene involving a remote control car, along with countless one-liners, and a seriously jam packed inclusion of innuendos in the first half where James is advised to pump his women for information.

As with all the others, it's one which is really easy viewing and can be watched on numerous occasions without being bored. Will there ever be a bad Bond movie?
