Review of Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) by Bruce D — 05 Mar 2015
Average Bond movie that sets the tone of Pierce Brosnan's era as James Bond.
The script is rushed and affects the quality of the film evident after the quality of its predecessor Goldeneye which had a long pre-production period.
Jonathan Pryce plays the main villain. A villain that doesn't scare the audience. He is just annoying. A mad media baron with a wink to Rupert Murdoch and the late Robert Maxwell.
Joe Don Baker returns as US CIA agent Jack Wade. An inferior ally to Bond's long time ally, Felix Leiter.
The henchman Stamper just reminds me of a 1980s Rock 4 villain Drago!
The locations as usual are good including the German city of Hamburg and the South East China Sea region.
Look out for producer Michael G. Wilson in his obligatory cameo role!
Asian actress Michelle Yeoh plays agent Wai Lin. A nod to The Spy Who Loved Me where an enemy secret agent is a match for Bond.
