Review of Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) by Walker — 18 Nov 2008
CONSENSUS: Following what seems to be a cursed trend in Bond films, (just look at the MOONRAKER follow up to THE SPY WHO LOVED ME for example) this one takes a significant drop in quality compared to GOLDENEYE.
However, this is nonetheless an exciting, fast-paced, fun action film in the most sophisticated, Bondish sense. Brosnan has quickly made the role his own, mixing the edge of Connery with the charm of Moore.
Has some of the most exhilerating action scenes in the Bond franchise (the pre-titles sequence is the series best) and an enthralling music score by Arnold. More in the fashion of DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER and featuring a fair plot with absurd motivations, this is escapist joy that fits snuggly in the Bond canon.
MY GRADE: B.
