Review of Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveller (1988) by Mary . — 22 Nov 2009
Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveller is the story of Ralph, a young boy who enjoys stamp collecting. When Tommy Tricker offers Ralph a set of stamps for his father's duplicate Bluenose stamp, after hesitation, he trades it, but finds out he was tricked. The stamp turns out to be a rare Boy on the Mast stamp, which leads Ralph, along with his sister Nancy to a stamp shop, where Nancy is given a stamp book. Said book, which once belonged to Charles Merryweather, is the start of a journey for young Ralph, to travel across the world to Australia, to find Charles' other book, full of rare stamps. Unfortunately for Ralph, Tommy has also learned about the book and so begins the story.
Overall, the movie is a good Canadian film from the 80s, going along with such films as The Peanut Butter Solution, The Great Land of Small, and The Dog That Stopped The War, to name a few. The movie itself is rather enjoyable with a cast that really only starred in this movie, aside from the odd cast member.
There is a sequel that followed, which was made several years later, but takes place as this one ends, with a completely different cast, but follows the same storyline.
