Review of Tombstone (1993) by Shannon M — 03 May 2010
Just saw this movie again on TNT. Holds up well, with some great quotable dialogue, decently staged gun fight scenes, a quirky / funny approach by Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday, and a kick ass performance by Kurt Russell.
Best scene : Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp totally turns blowhard Billy Bob Thornton into a quivering tub of jello. Great period detail, and great support by pros Sam Elliot and Bill Paxton. Drawbacks : film goes on too long, and villains are too hammy to be any real threat.
Trivia : after director Kevin Jarre got fired, Kurt Russell went on to direct most of the movie. George P Cosmatos got credit due to DGA regulations.
