Review of Tombstone (1993) by Tony K — 23 Apr 2010
In an era where the Western was pretty much dead, "Tombstone" was a surprise success. Probably the best Western since the days of John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. Val Kilmer was truly screwed out of a well deserved Oscar Nomination for this movie.
And ensemble cast that worked well together and who were all great actors in their own right. This topped "Wyatt Earp" for many reasons, but the main was Kurt Russel's depiction of Wyatt over Kevin Costner's.
Costner was nothing short of a jerk and tried to torpedo "Tombstone" several times. His attitude came through in his performance and made Wyatt a completely unlikable guy. True, the real Wyatt Earp was not the best man who ever lived, but Kurt Russell was able to play the character's faults while keeping the affection of the audience.
