Review of Tomb Raider (2018) by Benskylerhill — 08 Apr 2018
By the standards of filmmaking in general, it's not good. By video game movie standards, it's a downright masterpiece. Alicia Vikander is the most capable actress to play Lara Croft as of yet. She gives it her all, but her performance is the only one that is not cringe-inducing and it does not help to elevate the script that's unintentionally comedic at parts. The action is fun, as is to be expected from the genre, but the story just leaves too much room for blatantly idiotic decision-making that, if avoided, would have cleaned up inconsistency but also would have severely truncated the film's length. That being said, there is quite a plot twist that is sure to satidfy most viewers. This is a movie for fans of the franchise. Tomb raider fans will be well-served by the story, but newcomers will find little enjoyable in this reboot.
