Review of Tomb Raider (2018) by Wine & Popcor N — 04 Jun 2018

As far as game-to-film adaptations go, this is one of the best. The tomb raider franchise is not a renowned video game staple because of its impeccable storyline, the appeal has always been Lara and her journey.

Vikander delivers a stark contrast to Jolie's 2-dimensional ass-kicking badass. This Lara is vulnerable as she is brave and doesn't shy away from getting her hands dirty. Vikander carries this movie on her shoulders as she run, punches and shoots her way through the japanese wilderness. Her performance oozes amicable humility and presents a Lara Croft who is believable and well rounded, fitting with our times.

The movie hosts thrilling action scenes which act as tear a-ways from its generic storyline and average script. Tomb raider is an enjoyable ride regardless of your familiarity with the source material. While the movie is nothing ground-breaking, Vikander has reviewed this corpse of a movie franchise with her electric yet understated performance of Lara and I would gladly welcome a sequel.
