Review of Tomb Raider (2018) by Wiscojoe — 19 Mar 2018
There's nothing all that groundbreaking or memorable about 'Tomb Raider,' but it's a classically made adventure movie with good acting, an effective score, and plenty of suspenseful (and coherent) action scenes.
It's not for everyone, but for fans of B movie matinees, it's enough to impress. It's by far the best videogame movie that I've seen, though that's not saying much. 'Tomb Raider' succeeds because it faithfully captures the spirit and the mechanics of the pixelated source material, while never forgetting that it's a live-action movie about flesh and blood characters.
Most people probably won't want to spend the money to see this in the theater, but I suspect a lot of people will be pleasantly surprised when they finally watch it on an airplane or catch it on cable.
