Review of Tom Jones (1963) by April M — 13 Sep 2008
I remember reading this on my e-book reader not too long ago after rereading Jane Austen, and I remember not liking it. Here's Tom Jones, in love with Sophia Western, and he keeps sleeping around and getting into all sorts of trouble! Aside from all that sex and violence, the author/narrator kept addressing the reader about the craft of writing as well as various this and that.
I honestly didn't see the comedy in it. But this movie! This movie brought the book to life and brought me to light. It's a cute, fun story with nice surprises, including the ending. It was great to watch and made the book so much neater on reflection.
It even has the characters addressing the camera, like the author addressed the reader. DVRed off cable.
