Review of Tom Jones (1963) by Joel A — 08 Feb 2010
One of the more stranger pictures to receive the best film at the academy awards and taking into consideration that there was also very tough competition that year. Despite that it is little fun film, very light hearted. Such an array of comedic techniques speeding up, freeze frame, silent film techniques with quite a unique blend.
Albert Finney was terrific as Tom, but the standout was Hugh Griffith, he surely stole the show. Although Tom is scandalous character he is lovable and that is the film's real strength... you like him and enjoy his journey. after watching it is understandable why the oscars showed favour.
