Review of Tokyo Tribe (2014) by Kevin R — 13 Apr 2016
Butterflies in the neon.
In a future, apocalyptic society in Tokyo people live in tribes of sorts because the life expectancy has drastically decreased and it requires teamwork to stay alive from rival tribes. One tribe that specializes in girls, drugs, and guns threaten the territory of a poor group of kids. The kids work together to take down the invading tribe...or die trying...
"Do we kill 'em today or eat 'em?".
Sion Sono, director of Tag, Love & Peace, The Virgin Psychics, The Whispering Star, Bad Film, The Land of Hope, Cold Fish, Make the Last Wish, and Guilty of Romance, delivers Tokyo Tribe. The storyline for this picture is mediocre and reminded me a little of the recent Judge Dredd remake. The acting and script is mediocre but the cinematography was pretty and well done.
"Ain't no more lust for power here!".
This was recently added to Netflix online so I grabbed it and added it to my wish list. This was disappointing and seemed to focus more on sexploitation than having a worthwhile plot, character development, and consistent worthwhile action. Overall, I'd skip this, even if you're a foreign film fan.
"You're some badass motherfucker...".
Grade: C-.
