Review of Tokyo Gore Police (2008) by David R — 17 Nov 2008
This movie may not live up to the 5 stars I gave it. It isnt one of my favorite movies, but is full of some of the most original content I have ever seen in American, European, or Asian cinema. It is apparent that this movie works with a very small budget, but somehow they make it work to show a future Tokyo controlled by a facist police force (down to the Starship Troopers/Robocop style adds on TV).
The gore is plentiful in vein of Machine Girl, but this movie uses less homages to becomes more original. The movie borrows a lot from Adult Anime/Hentai and at times made me feel squeemish to see some of the nasty fetishes portrayed in this film.
Some of the action is a little too overdone, reminiscent of a video game, some over used fast motion shots, but since the movie clocks in at 110 minutes, it is easy to overlook it's faults with so much original content.
I would recommend seeing this on the big screen.
